Summer Camp!

Design/Build Day-Camps in July in Alviso! … for ages 9 – 14: Learn how to design and build your own Tiny House!!! Come to the barn at the South Bay Yacht Club, 1491 Hope St., Alviso, San Jose

Is your son or daughter a budding design engineer, architect, creative maker, or real estate professional? This is the perfect day-camp for future architects, urbanists, construction managers, home-builders, and artists or all kinds. We will work on tables to design our tiny houses to scale in plan and elevation, then, in and around the barn on Hope Street, we’ll use studs, rafters, plywood, shipping palettes, and paint to make our tiny houses. Skills introduced include 1) the artistry, vision, and consideration required to sketch and design houses with an HB pencil on grid paper; and 2) the skill, knowledge and care required to scale drawings, measure dimensions, and frame walls; and 3) the patience required to sand, seal, prime, protect, and paint. Talks will focus on the history of American light wood framing, from the “balloon” frame to the passive house. American traditions of DIY (‘do it yourself’) ran alongside the development of these techniques. It’s these ‘do it yourself’ skills -- good ol’ American-Know-How -- that will be the skills foundation of these three one-week day-camps. Lunch Included!
